Brian Scott and No. 11 Shore Lodge Team - Las Vegas Motor Speedway Advance

Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

No. 11 Shore Lodge Team Notes of Interest

·   Brian Scott travels to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Sam’s Town 300 in what will be just his second career start at the 1.5-mile track in NASCAR Nationwide Series action.

·   Scott is looking to improve on his previous lone start at Las Vegas. After starting the 2010 Sam’s Town 300 from the eighth position Scott was caught up in a late race accident and was eventually scored with a 31st-place finish.

·   In addition to his lone Nationwide Series start at Las Vegas, Scott has made three starts at Las Vegas in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He scored a career best 14th-place finish during the 2008 event.

·   Chassis #114 is the car Scott will race this weekend in Las Vegas. The car is a brand new chassis for Joe Gibbs Racing. It’s sister car is Chassis #106 which is also new for 2011 but was used at the test Scott participated in at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January.

·   Scott is coming off a top-10 finish at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend. Despite spinning with less than two laps to go in the race, Scott gathered up his No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota and finished on the lead lap in ninth place. The ninth-place finish allowed Scott to jump 11 positions in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings. He is currently 12th in the championship point standings, 33 points behind leader Reed Sorenson.

·   Scott’s ninth-place finish at Phoenix also earned him the Featherlite “Most Improved Driver” award. The ninth-place effort is 25 positions better than his 34th-place finish at Daytona (accident) one week ago, the series’ most improved finish from the previous week.

·   Rather than travel back to North Carolina, Scott stayed on the west coast to participate in some winter sports in his home state of Idaho this week. In addition to participating in a little snow mobile action, Scott may attempt to heli-ski while enjoying a couple of days off before the NASCAR Nationwide Series teams hit the track for practice on Thursday afternoon.

Scott Quotes on Las Vegas:

“I actually have mixed feelings in heading to Las Vegas. I really enjoy going to that part of the country. Vegas is an amazing and magnificent city and there is always something going on there so I look forward to that. As far as the track – I’ve had some really good and then some not-so-good races there. I am feeling good after the run we were having there last year. We had a fast car and were running in the top 10 when I got caught up in a racing incident with Paul Menard and we ended up wrecking. But having had that good experience there last year is what gives me a good feeling about racing there this weekend. Joe Gibbs Racing has a good grasp on the intermediate tracks and what it takes to run well at those types of tracks.

“We learned a lot as a team last week at Phoenix when it comes to communication with the team and that is a big deal. We made a lot of progress there and we want to apply what we learned last week to the race this week and keep improving.”

Crew Chief Kevin Kidd Discusses Goals for 2011

“Our expectations for the early part of this season remain the same regardless of what track we visit. For now we are shooting for consistency and solid performances in the top 10. We are points racing this season and based on past seasons’ statistics, a top-10 average for race finishes on the season will earn us the Nationwide Series Driver’s Championship. So for the early part of the season we are looking to compete solidly in the top 10. This is a new team. We are working on building this into a race-winning program and ultimately a championship-winning team, and to do that you have to get your legs under you first. At Phoenix I feel that we achieved this and we are hoping to do that again at Las Vegas.”
